A Guide to Understanding Worker’s Compensation

The Worker’s Compensation system is designed to provide medical, wage, and disability benefits to people who are injured in an accident at work, regardless of fault. An injured worker doesn’t need to show that he or she was injured because of negligence; only that the accident resulting in injury occurred while on the job or performing job related activities.

Be aware - while an injured worker does not need to show that the employer was negligent, the worker cannot sue the employer outside of worker’s compensation system even if the employer was negligent.
